While travelers continue their quest to find cheap airplane tickets, cheap vacation packages, and discount hotel rooms, safety remains a top priority. Travel & Leisure’s annual survey of how travelers’ rank 30 of America’s favorite cities revealed that visitors feel safer in urban setting that embrace suburban traits and are less at ease in traditional urban settings.
The survey revealed that cities known for their cleanliness and friendly people and small town vibes ranked higher, such as Charleston, Austin and Denver. At the opposite end, congested cities filled with skyscrapers, heavy traffic, and pollution were ranked on the low end of the perceived safety scale.
Interestingly this meant cities like Los Angeles and New York show up in the bottom third of the safest cities although their crime levels are low on a per capita basis according to the Department of Justice.
The following were the highest traveler ranked cities when it came to safety:
1) Portland, OR: known for reliable public transportation, being environmentally conscious, great parks, and quiet.
2) Minneapolis/St. Paul: outstanding airport experiences, friendly people, family oriented activities and extremely clean streets.
3) Charleston: ranked #1 for its peoples’ friendliness and attractiveness.
4) Austin: its residents are viewed as intelligent, friendly and attractive, with terrific neighborhood restaurants and well maintained city parks.
5) Santa Fe: is ranked higher for its peace and quiet. Its moderate weather, cleanliness and vast antique shopping are all attractions.
Cities that ranked lowest in travelers perception of safe cities were as follows:
30) Lost Angeles: scored at the bottom for the friendliness of its people, its environment, relaxation, reliable public transportation, cleanliness and worthwhile public parks. Lack of people out in the evenings in Los Angeles was cited as a safety concern.
29) New Orleans: although it ranked number 2 for friendly locals and wild weekend getaways, perhaps visitors feared too much partying can result in trouble.
28) Miami: even though it remains a top destination for romance and home to a very attractive native population, it scored low on safety issues.

What NBA courtside seats are worth sitting in and which NBA courtside tickets are worth purchasing? A look at what to expect in each arena, on tap is the Pacific Division in the West.
Northwest Division
Denver Nuggets Courtside Tickets – What to expect – Everyone thinks this is the second best team in the NBA. Everyone thinks they are the second best team in the West and have a shot at a title this year. Could be their last year or two with a shot at the title. Billups is getting too old to help this team, and itf Ty Lawson doesn’t develop right, it could be an issue.
Minnesota Timberwolves Courtside Tickets – What to expect – A rebuilding year. It’s hard to get excited about a team when your GM says you don’t expect to win too many games. They have some good pieces, but they need to fix the Ricky Rubio debacle or they could lose their fans.
Oklahoma City Thunder Courtside Tickets – What to expect – You get to watch a future scoring champ in Kevin Durant. A team that is building the right way. One of the few good front offices in the NBA. This team is next up. They have the right pieces, if they can make a couple more good moves next offseason, this team can seriously contend in the West. NBA courtside tickets to see Kevin Durant will be worth it for the next 10 years.
Portland Trail Blazers Courtside Tickets – What to expect – Too many hurt Centers. Should have moved some of their pieces when they were at their highest value last year. Oden is probably a bust, especially considering he was the #1 pick.
Utah Jazz Courtside Tickets – What to expect – A team that seems to always be pretty good. People will probably look back in a year or two and say they should have moved Millsap or Boozer to get something back to take a shot at the title.
